Dr. Halverson, D.O., FAAFP

James M. Halverson, D.O., FAAFP

Dr. Halverson graduated with honors from the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1992 (Kirksville was the first osteopathic medical school in the country). He completed his residency at Riverside Regional Medical Center. In addition to general medicine, he has extensive training and experience in hospital and emergency medicine.

Before attending medical school, he coached basketball and taught high school chemistry and physics for four years. He also has a bachelor's degree in chemistry and a master's degree in education; both are from the University of Virginia.

Dr. Halverson is dedicated to the promotion of healthy lifestyles and the prevention of disease. He believes that educating patients about their conditions and helping them learn how to manage their medical problems are important aspects of care. Dr. Halverson is a diplomat of the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners, a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, and is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.


Dr. Beavers, M.D.

Tammy Beavers, M.D.

Dr. Beavers is a graduate of Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC. She completed her family medicine residency at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, and then joined the Air Force where she served at Langley AFB. Before joining James River Family Medicine, she was in private practice in Williamsburg.

Dr. Beavers has special interests in women's and children's health as well as preventative medicine. In particular, she has focused on breast cancer prevention, cervical cancer detection, as well as the prevention and treatment of diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, asthma, and other chronic illnesses. Dr. Beavers is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and is an active member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Virginia Academy of Family Physicians.


Leah Childress, FNP-C

Leah M. Childress, FNP-C

Leah Childress received her bachelor's degree in nursing from George Mason University before earning her master's degree in nursing from Old Dominion University. She is a family nurse practitioner board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Nurse Practitioner Childress provides health care services to men and women of all ages. She enjoys collaborating with patients to construct a realistic plan of care that meets the needs of both patient and provider. She believes that when patients and providers work closely together to treat disease, practical goals can be set and achieved. Nurse Practitioner Childress feel that health promotion and disease prevention are of the utmost importance.
